Head Room

I was browsing the general info about Top Hats on here and it said 5'9" headroom.

My Sea Lady has 6' 2"headroom and a the V berth is 6' 2".
The starboard berth when I drop the chart table is exactly 6 foot long.

I measured over the weekend as I have had a couple of dates with a man who is 6'4" and was trying to figure out if he would fit on my boat or I need to amputate him at the ankles before inviting him for a sail.

At this stage I may need to keep him on deck rather than an invitation into the cabin.

Is there really that much difference in headroom?

5'9" to 6'2"???

Di,
Men who are over 6ft tall are used to sleeping in short beds. There are more important criteria to think about!

Hello Di

A new Pavlova Boy ? ..... the difference between 5'9" and 6'2" is 5 inches ! as long as your not 4' 2" everything should be fine ?

Cheers Bear

Di,

Did you check your floor dimensions.
It may be that your first owner was a tall bloke/sheila and had the cabin floor put in a bit lower!

If that's the case you will carry less water under the floor. Do you know how much?

Di, He'll be on his knees anyway... So measurement details are pretty arbitrary!

I have no idea how much water I hold.

My floor does seem to be lower than some other Top Hat's I have seen but it has never been something I have really considered.

When purchasing "Sea Lady" head room was important because at that time I was sailing with my dad and he is 6 foot 1 1/2 inches.
And he could stand tall and fit his flattened hand between the top of his head and the roof.

The floor now is about 1/4 higher as I have had a new floor put on top of the old one.

On his knees???

Hmmm galley slave???
Swab that deck?
