Mk1 with outboard...original or retrofit?

Hello esteemed toppers,
I see on the information about the Mk1's that you could originally chose from a range of inboards...the info also stated there was 'provision' for an outboard to be fitted.
So...if I see a nice MK1 with no inboard and an outboard on the transom or a bracket, is there a way to tell if that's how it was supplied originally? Someone mentioned that inboards could be removed, upsetting the ballast configuration?
My preference is for a mk11 or mk111 with an outboard in a well (personal preference, diesel fumes make me sneeze non-stop and give me a headache), but there is the occasional mk1 which looks nice and has an outboard on the transom...any tips for knowing whether the inboard has been removed, or should it be obvious? Apologies if this is a dumb question.
Thanks!!

Mel, the story is the same for all the versions, except the mk1 does not have a well. I suspect the boat in Cairns might have once had an inboard. I shall be looking for vestigial prop shaft tubes and motor mounts. The difference in ballast weight Imho is not that great.

Thanks Ian, I wrongly assumed that the presence of a well meant it had been there since construction (so never a diesel engine), but I see now they can be retrofitted also...

Mel, I would tend to think that if an inboard motor had been removed and an outboard added then there would be some evidence of the old motor. Perhaps the motor mounting points would be visible or even just stains from oil or diesel. Then there's the prop shaft.
I am not too sure how much difference it would make with sailing if an inboard had been taken out and an outboard installed. In my opinion, for general cruising, probably not much difference.

Hi Guys ,
It seems as though I bought a Mk1 Outboard version , as the work that has gone into creating the box section ( step ) where a deisel would be fitted is seemless , and be of the same period in which my Mk1 was built . If we could carbon date Mk1s to verify their vintage ( Before Moses ?? Lol ) , this would confirm my belief !!! . Or at least I'm sure they will be around that long !!! Lol
I would have taken a picture of the section in question this weekend , as I've been onboard all weekend with my two young sons getting to grips with raising Head / Main sail . Though IPads are not compatable with this site ??
All the best to All Toppys ,

Brad,
Two quick ways to sort this is...
Do you have the cut out in the rudder for the propellor?
Is there a plug or evidence of repair to your stern post internally?

Hi Philip ,
I understand what you are asking me to consider , though their is no sign of there ever having being a shaft drive through hull . The square section which contains the bilge on my Mk1 is to well manufactured to be an " owner job " . If there is an " Outboard Version " , then I believe I may own one , for the reasons already mentioned .
If I was able to I would post a picture ,

Brad, to be able to post a picture using an IPad, you must first save the picture to a photo website, such as photobucket, or something similar. Once you have done that, you can post the .img link here......Then a phot appears just like this one I took two days ago from guess where.....

Hi Guys ,
