Hi folks
I have a tophat which draws 3'6" or 1050mm and I believe it is a shoal draft version which I am very happy with - it has looked after me for the past 8 yrs on Moreton Bay.
I'm curious - does anyone have any data on these models and the key differences with standard draft models?
(Incidentally I have been unable to determine whether it is a mark II or III on the current info. on this website. I have the 3 side windows, a straight top companionway, timber interior fitout with head to stbd across from galley (not enclosed), anchor well, outboard well, single cockpit lker to port - any ideas?)
Many thanks to all the good people maintaining this website.
regards

Good evening Workinidler, (sorry don't have your first name)
Have just recieved some info on the shoal draft Top Hat which is as follows:-
''There were shallow draft versions built in Mk 2 & 3. A 10''high plug was inserted into the mould and then extra ballast added to give the same performance"
To determine which mark you have depends on the width of the floor at your sink measured across the the boat. I actually havent got the measurements (will do so this weekend) but if a size 91/2 boot won't fit across the floor its probably a Mark 3. This varation is caused by the difference in the cabin roof hight and the effort to maintain headroom. With the windows, because so many Top Hats were fitted out by their owners and hence do vary a bit, so that mk 2 & 3 do also have 3 windows!
I would be interested to know how much water you can fit in your keel tank as this varies from mark to mark also and maybe for your version as well.
