Hi Guys ,

Just wondering if any forum member knows of a reasonably priced monthly rental on private moorings , on the Hawkesbury River . It seems a bit of a rort to be paying $280 a month , on something that I can get professionally installed & pay Maritime there fees ( 1k all up ) . Which I will do in a few months , though for now it seems a bit excessive .

Advice much sorted ??

Thanking You ,

Brad

Hey Brad, first thing to do is to whip over to the Roads and Maritime website and get a mooring application form, choose your preferred mooring area and then pay your application fee.

Once you have done that they'll notify you as soon as there is a vacant spot. Might take a few months or more, but unless you get on the list you could wait forever. This link will get you kicked off.

Once your spot is yours, the old mooring apparatus may be available to you. The Boating Service officer might help you contact the old owner. You will still need to have it serviced regardless, just to make sure it's in good order. Otherwise you will need to get a mooring contractor to sink a new one for you.

Until you get your own mooring, you're going to have to cop the $280, although Careel Bay is a little cheaper from memory and they have a tender service.

Good luck!

There are Maritime moorings immediately available - some with tackle in Mooney Mooney Creek in the Hawkesbury River.

I gave mine up before Christmas when a spot in Parsley Bay became available, had the mooring tackle moved.

Easy.

Hi Dianne ,

Thanks for the advice ,

Mooney Mooney Creek is my preferred area for having a mooring , as it suits the fact that in Sydney , I am based in Western Sydney , and would use the M2-7 ? , to access the area better then current Church Point area .

Catch up some time in future Sealady ....

Hi Guys ,

Creating an ending to this post , I have a found a temporary mooring place with Endeavour Marine Services of Kogarah Bay . So in the next few weekends I'll make a weekend of it , by sailing down to Manly on the Saturday staying anchored overnight there . Then early Sunday morning , I will then head further South to Botany Bay .

Hello Brad

There are some fantastic spots to explore on your trip south ? Palm Beach ,Long Reef is a nice spot ,but a bit rough on the gelcoat ! Once you reach Sydney Heads well , the worlds your oyster ! Sow and Pigs Grotto Point .nice ! But my choice would be Balmoral Beach, sandy and there is a Bottle shop and Fish and Chip shop there also . A little further up towards the Spit the shallows are a fantastic place, sandy you can choose many a spot to spend the night .... no anchor required !

Seriously , and call me Brad ? That will be a great little sail ,as the winds have been pleasant lately .yet a little on the light side so keep that in mind. Yachter's Cove (Store Beach ) is a nice over nighter the one after Quarantine . Then it's only a 10 min motor to get out the Heads again .

Cheers Bear

Hi Bear ,

Thanks for pointing out Bamoral Beach , I have a vague memory of being on Balmoral Beach as a Primrary School Student around 1982 . Looking foward to that weekend coming mid May , as it will be my first Ocean Passage . Recently I equipped my Mk1 with the mandatory legislated safety measurements , including the following :

Open Water Flare Kit
V Sheet
27 Meg Radio equipped and working ( as bought )
Mirror for signaling
Life Jackets - though our children will not be onboard that weekend .

Before setting out on Saturday / Sunday mornings Coastal Marine Radio Service will be notified of intended journey .

Any advice most welcome ( I PMD you mate ) , I intend to be around 5km off the Coastline ..

Hi Brad

You won't need to go that far out, you just need to leave enough room for Long Reef as it is the furthest point . When sailing through the Heads and if it's a N/E always come in in the middle or more towards North Head than further towards South Head .It was a little bit of advice passed on to me by some very seasoned yachties including my "Old Man" .I think it's the old lee shore rule of common sense. And not to close coming around towards North Head as the joggle is a killer coming off north Head .

That reminds me off the old days back in the late 70's early 80's before the sewer outlet was moved further out to sea "strumming the banjo "that's what you had to do with your fishing line while you were fishing .

Cheers Bear

Welcome to Botany Bay.

Are you leave the boat there permenantly? I believe the marnina costs are pretty good and i dont think there is much of a waiting list if any.

Ill swing by BBYC this afternoon, might see you.

Jeremy.

P.s mines the one missing a mast.

Hi Jeremy ,

Ideally I would like to gain a private mooring around Brooklyn - Mooney Mooney Creek , though depending on factors , such as what is easier to get to from Penrith .

As I love aviation , as I use to live in Kaohsiung Southern Taiwan , and was often travelling throughout Asia , I'm looking forward to spending some time on Botany Bay , watching the planes in action ( while Anchored lol )

I will be taking Mooja down to Kogarah Bay from Church Point either the second or third week of May , and I wouldn't mind if a forum member with Offshore experience joined me . Just PM me .
