Tophat 30

A friend of mine told me he had bought a top hat 30 ! I have not seen one, I know the 25 and the 27, but not a 30 Did they make one ???? Cheers jl (Brintoms hutton 28)

The sad truth is that Illingworth & Primrose did not design a 30 foot Top Hat.

The ONLY Top Hat designed is the one we all have and the four 27 footers which came from an altered Top Hat mould.

What happened was that Formit got hold of a HMG mould that was 30'6" long. I would like to know where they came from.

Formit then produced a center cockpit yacht and called it a 31 foot top hat [same 30'6"mould mine you]

They also produced an aft cockpit yacht and called it a 32 foot top hat [and yes it came out of the same 30'6" mould!]

These yachts apparently were not popular so I have no dates for when or how many were produced, mind you I'm not really interested in them.

So called 31' and 32 top hats are NOT Top Hats and are not even recongised as Top Hats by our group.

The only connection is that Formit salesman Mike Garrett was involved with these ring-ins.

So unfortunately your friend did not buy a Top Hat, but brought a 30'6" HMG yacht!
