Has anyone managed to successfuly reseal their windows (mine have aluminium outer and inner frames)? Or has anyone had their windows replaced by the gent who advertises in Afloat magazine?

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark

Just about to replace our windows. We have same ali windows and have pulled rubber off from outside. Replacement rubber $2.50 per metre from any marine window suppliers. The thickness of pane 4.5 mm - and we have chosen lexcen over perspex as its much stronger, but unfortunately, scratches easily and crowsfeet more readily in sun. We are going to purchase lexcen and cut out with jigsaw, using old windows as templates. Have gotten information from one window company in Brisbane, but have found them overpriced so therefore our decision to do it ourselves. Have not read Afloat magazine, but have been fitting windows in boats for 6 years as part of my trade. Note, corrosion on aluminium frames is normally the cause of leaks - fix it by cleaning corrosion and priming properly before sikaflex (and not silicon).

If you have any questions, feel free to call. Brett 0402 442 043

Thanks Brett, you make it sound easy. My windows are not too bad so I guess I will buy some rubber and have a go at pullling the alumin frames off, replacing the rubber and resealing with sikaflex.

Cheers,
Mark

Recently replaced the windows on Tales (Mk111 - long one piece) with new ones.
The old aluminium frames were corroded and in a couple of places not actually sealed to the cabin fibreglass.
I had the new ones made slightly oversize as the original cutout was not very accurate and at least one rivet was just in fresh air!
The firm who made the new windows is:
Aquarian Marine Windows
Factory 5
28-30 Lipton Dr.
Thomastown Vic 3074.
Ph 03 94695811
The new frames are powder coated rather than anodised but the man who made them has been doing it for nearly 30 years with a very good reputation and claims that they are more durable than anodised.
The price was very good too!
I sealed the frames to the fiberglass with Sikkaflex when I riveted them in.
Saw some heavy weather in Bass Strait after Christmas (up to 30 kts) with NO LEAKS!
I found them a very good company to deal with.
All the best,
Tom
