That is COOL CHANGE which I last saw at the Yeppoon Marine in 2011. At that time it was for sale at the wonderful price of $27,000!

It has had a complete professional rebuild to a standard you would find in a half million dollar yacht. No Kidding

A hatch has been fitted to the cabin roof and the interior looks nothing like any other Top Hat.
But something went wrong as there is only 1500mm of headroom at the main bulkhead.

I have been aware of this Top Hat for a year or so as it is for sale down the beach from Rockhampton. The price meant I had never been to see it, only drooled over the ads. As the price has dropped, I have realised that for the money I probably could not get Windchaser done up like Cool Change. Some one is gunna get a very nice Top Hat, although I was not aware of the limited headroom at the main bulkhead.

Oh, I have loved the hatch since I first saw it, how hard would it be to install one? Hmm, have to change the mainsail track and it would be tricky I guess running lines across the roof. But, with my tropical climate the extra breeze would be nice.

Begs the question; Why didn't he fit a sliding hatch?

that's actually pretty close to the original design for the main hatch that Illingworth and Primrose came up with Mark, although that design actually folds forward to lie flat on the coach house. Although I worry about the security in a storm of the design I must say on days sails in most condition the hatch usually ends up holding my beer, assorted sunnies and munchies etc

Thinking about that head room in Cool Change, do any of you Mark 2 or 3 owners think that the forward part of the cabin has been lowered?

Phillip, I don't think the forward part of Windchaser (MkII) has been lowered. While I have not been in another Top Hat to compare, there is plenty of head room at the sink and I am average height. I can even stand up in the v-berth. But that is with the hatch open and my head poking out : ).

What I meant is, If you look at the photo of Cool Change, do you think the level of the coachroof is lower than than a Mk 2or 3?

Another way of putting it is, is the forward end of the coachroof closer to the deck than a Mk 2 or 3?

Phillip, hmm, all I can tell from the pics is the coachroof in front of the mast has been changed compared to my Mk II. The big bent hatch like on my Mk II is gone (as are the v-berth windows) and a flat hatch has been put in closer to the mast.
