HRYC Top Hat Race

HRYC Top Hat Race

Postby storm petrel » Thu Jan 03, 2013 7:58 pm

Hi All,

Cliff from the HRYC has got back to and suggested they could organise a Top Hat event for the 9/10 February at Parsley Bay. He wanted to know if a Race and BBQ or two days of races would be preferred. See the 'Events' section of the site.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark,
I could possibly make this on my way back, if the timing works out.

Im up for either option, 1 race & BBQ might have better numbers attend, as people might have other commitments to commit for two days?

cheers

Shaun,

It would be great if you could make it on the 9th of February. I have posted more details on the Events section of the discussion board. Seems a one day event is the go and the HRYC already has 6 Top Hats in their fleet. With you, Michael and me that would make 9 boats and hopefully some more Top Hats from the site will join us.

Regards,
Mark

P.S. Do you still hope to be in Pittwater Sunday afternoon? Please let me know when you will be here and if I can bring you anything when I sail over to visit.

Can we please not call it a race.

If it is to be a race I will come along for the sail but not be an entrant.

Thanks Diana, the more the merrier. It will be a race but only for Top Hats so it will not be too serious. We would be happy to have you sailing with us as a non-racing 'observer' and to catch up afterwards for a yarn.

How about the other Top Hatters out there???? The 9th of February is not that far away.

Cheers,
Mark

The six Top Hats from the HRYC still intend to hold a 'Top Hats Only Race' from Parsley Bay on the 9th of February and are very keen to have other Top Hats join them. They hope to follow the race with a raft up in Refuse Bay for an hour or two. To date, we have Sealady(cruising in company), Dulcamara and Storm Petrel. Is anyone else interested in joining us????? These races are a lot of fun and the HRYC Hatters are always very hospitable. It would also give you a chance to meet other Hatters and to look over their boats.

I have attached the HRYC course map and race starting procedures, but had to compress them a lot before I could paste them. If you want greater resolution, zap me a PM with your email address and I will send the PDFs to you directly. You can also access the HRYC courses document online at:

Smooth Sailing,
Mark

If you call it a race you need to check your insurance policy, as racing risk is usually an optional extra.

Most standard policies are fine for social racing. I've checked before with my insurer. The only time you need additional insurance is if you are racing a series race where spinnakers are in use. Still worth checking through your own insurer.

The last Race we Top Hatters went to at HRYC was in company with their usual series, and it was a heap of fun, (and we came last!) :D

Still planning on being there Mark.

The race is a social race with no extras (spinnakers) and I think this is OK with most insurers, but I agree that it is wise to check. I checked with Club Marine who said it would be covered by my standard policy.

Mark
