Weekend get together/social race in Broken Bay
Posted: Fri Oct 05, 2012 5:47 pm
Hi all,
The Hawkesbury River Yacht club have got back to me about hosting a Top hat get together(letter copied below). They have 6 Top Hats in the club and are keen for some of our members to join them for the weekend. They need a preferred date; either 24-25th Nov or the 1-2 Dec. I would prefer the 24th-25th, what do others think???
These have been really fun events in the past and I would encourage all Top Hatters to come along. (yes, even the Lake Macquarie, Sydney and Camden Haven crews; Are you out there Bear, shaun and Phil?).
Please get back with a preferred date ASAP.
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Most of our Top Hats are interested in this event. About 6 of them.
The possible dates I have are 24th and 25th November or 1st and 2nd December.
If you could arrange with your members to choose between those weekends and get back to me. I’ll then arrange our end with our members.
We have taken a deposit on the barge so I expect it will not be available for either weekend. We could arrange a simple BBQ at McKell Park.
If so, it is possible for the visiting Top Hats raft up on the pontoon near the swimming pool which is near the entrance to the channel leading to the marina.
Approximate position is: 33 Deg. 32.78’ S, 151 Deg. 13.9’ E. An alternative is to use the outer pontoon in Parsley Bay where it should be possible to raft up a number of Top Hats.
I don’t think rafting up at either pontoon would be a problem to the locals at that time of day anyway e.g. after 4 p.m. as most people would have gone home by then.
There is an upper and lower park at McKell and it would depend on how busy the area is on the day as to which one we would use. Both have BBQ facilities. Your members should BYO drinks and we would prepare a BBQ for them at a cost of $10 per person, all you can eat. I don’t expect there would be a race entry fee, but I’ll confirm that later.
I expect your members should have a minimum of Social Racing insurance. That is racing in a fleet without any of those competing using extras.
If not, it is important that they notify their insurer that they intend to do a social race. Usually there would not be and extra cost in that extension of cover.
Our club does not have any cover to insure visiting boats while they are racing with us.
We would most likely hold two races for the Top Hats, one on each day. The race on the Saturday would probably be best started about 1:30 to 2:00 pm. The race on the Sunday could start say at 12:30 to allow plenty of time for your members to head off. Both races would be around 6 - 8 NM.
Regards
