Hi guys I got a quote on a brand new main sail with three reefs ,7oz material, all seams triple stitched, cunningham. and leech batterns this is a real offshore sail and would last through just about anything unfortunately it was last year and i lost the quote but it was with rolly tasker her in sydney and was for about $1300 I have no doubt I can ring them and get the exact quote again. What I am wondering Is, is there any one else out there who has been thinking about getting a new sail so that we can put together and have some buying power and maybe get it even cheaper? EG I have no doubt if we approached tasker in asia and said we had 3 or 4 sails we want made even with maybe some head sails he would give us a good price you never know the way things are at the moment he would be glad of the business so if any one is interested lets hear from you

I got a quote just this week for a very similar mainsail from a company in gosford which was priced at $1290. Though i think it only had 2 reef points.

When were you thinking of placing an order? depending on your timing i may be interested. Im thinking early october as ive a bunch of other things to do/pay for over the next short while.

How would it work with duty? would we get stung bringing them into the country ourselves from asia?

I also got a quote ($1250) for a new main from the guy at West Gosord for my MkII. I might be interested in joining a group to appraoh RT in asia, but I would be a bit worried that the size might not be quite right. The sailmaker in Gosford said he would prefer to acually measure the mast/boom himself on the boat rather than copy the old sail.

Hi guys I did get a quote from the guy in west gosford he wanted a minium of $1600 for this sail as it was way heavier cloth than he used and all the seams are to be triple stitched making the sail nearly double strentgh and three reefs I think what ever price they charge over seas is the price we pay plus posting from my experiance the quality of the finish from the asians is fantastic. by the way the guy in west gosford sends his orders over to asia to be made as well i had a mate in gosford order one from him and when he rang to see if it was ready he told him he was waiting for it to arrive from asia. looks like we are getting some interest here im not in huge hurry i have got to save some money as well but making a plan would make it easyier

Sound like the Asian option is the best one. You can count me in, though I will be OS from early Oct for a month (back 7th Nov) so it would have to be before or after this for me.
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Guys, I have just joined the group. I have a Mk3 with Yanmar 9HP inboard, circa 1983. Yacht was purchased in Sydney and now resides in Melbourne.
I wish to purchase a new main and happy to join in if others wish to place a bulk order. I had hoped to have it by October if there is a chance?

Hi Bornfree2
Looks like we have at least five interested in a new mainsail. Could you have a chat with Rolly Tasker Asia and see what they can do for us? I presume we would all need to send individual measurements and requirements (eg Slides or bolt rope, loose footed etc). So if the cost is OK, could you get some details about what measurents/specs they would need. Thank you for offering to help with this.

all

I just got a new main from Sail Solutions at Woolwich nsw,

6oz cross cut premium dacron (which does feel kind of lite)
2 reefs
4 battens

$930 inc gst

Not sure how valid that price will be for others as i think there was some concession due to having them do the new standing/running rig ($2840)

Auriga is now sailing well & comfy after a 6 month total refurb. Hope to see y'all out on the water
