I have a tophat with an outboard... but am interested in restoring a marine diesel as a personal project and would like to learn what models are fitted / recommended for our lovely boats. What models work best? Not sure it is worth refitting but maybe in time I would also like a project boat to fit this in?
Second question I guess is has anyone got an old "project" diesel sitting in a shed somewhere... they want to offload?

Thanks for that... no it doesn't have the cut outs... it is a MK3... but I have always wanted to restore a marine diesel and am failing to find a really cheap tophat with inboard to restore in the yard... I thought of maybe restoring something suitable with a view to adding it to a project boat at a later date.
I know it doesn't make much sense... I just enjoy this sort of stuff.

I have had an offer of a Drofin out of a Tophat - traded... it is a fair bit more expensive than I had hoped and don't have any further details at this point but would be interested to learn of anyone experience or these?

Karl,
My boat has a 1980 QM15 Yanmar twin, which seems to work well in the boat. It uses a shaft that exits the boat a little aft and a little to the side of the rudder. The advantage of this is that I can get the shaft out without removing the rudder, but it probably causes a little more prop walk and makes the boat a little harder to manoeuvre at low speed.
