What I did or planned for my Top Hat today!

Progress

Postby di_namic42 » Sat Mar 08, 2014 6:50 am

Well, I guess this is about as close as i am going to get to my Top Hat for a while.
Haven't given up on the TH completely , (but this is more sensible(as everyone tells me ).

Making solid progress now. Solar panels on.
Awnings and annexes done. Just some internal fitout now ( shelves), and sorting and packing for the first trip - to get things sorted out.Van awnings and annexe.

See pic at http://diannesbucketlist.files.wordpres ... annexe.jpg

There is the back annexe that sits on top of the Tailgate when lifted up, and an awning either side with connector piece.

The kitchen is in the annexe and looks like it is going to work really well.

So, my aunt and I leave Brisbane on the 16th March , 2 weeks to toddle down to sydney via hawksbury river and Blue mountains. Then the cruise for 2 weeks, then drive back via the inland route probably.

see pic on my blog

House sitter coming over tomorrow for dinner to check the place out! She is doing her 4th year of psychology, in her mid 50's and wants somewhere quiet to study! Sounds good! She may stay on until the end of the year!

Hi Aaron,
Thanks for the info about your motor.I have had the same motor in my Mark 2 since purchase some eight years ago.A 1989 model,I understand they were first made in 1984.
Last time I checked Yamaha still produced a similar motor, quite expensive though.

If you send your engine serial number to Yamaha by email on their website they will let you know the year.I found them very helpful.

My motor is sitting in my shed as one of the spark plugs left the threaded part in the cylinder head.

Good luck with your motor.

Hi John. I hammered a cold chisel into the remains of my spark plug, then unscrewed it with a shifting spanner. Be careful not to drive it in too far & damage the thread for the plug.
Cheers.

Today I replaced the cabin top handrails, a bit of a feat on my own. 8-)

I also positioned the new deck hardware.
This enabled me to measure up for cutting the fixing bolts to size.

So a busy couple of weeks coming up, includes a visit from Di next week and then from the 23rd
it will be all hands on deck to complete the refit over the following two to three weeks. :D

Oh, and I buggered up my brand new Chinese 12V polisher after 10 sec of use

I removed the #2 from the furler and took it to Hood Sails to have the UV cover replaced. It has slowly started to disintegrate since the cocky's got at it on the slip three years ago.......

Next time out I will have to remove the electric galley pump and sort out why it's sucking air. Not sure if it's the filter or the pump itself. I may even cut the floor out and rebuild the tank with a new floor yet, depending on how the above goes, because if it's not sucking air in the pump or the filter it's got to be the hose.....

Truthfully, I haven't done a jot of work on the old girl for over a year, apart from an anti-foul in September 2013. All I've done is keep her reasonably clean and tidy, and enjoyed the days out on Pittwater and Broken Bay, and after all, that's what it's all about eh?

Big strides today in Seaka's refit.

With the help of John [Longdeepthinker] we fitted almost all the new deck fittings today.

Would have got them fixed down but I have to reduce the length of a few bolts first.

Should be able to complete the work on Thursday afternoon.

The boom is to go back on-board this week also, which means we can complete the deck gear installation.

Planning to do undercoating in the main cabin Friday and complete all the top coat to the main cabin and fore cabin on Sunday.

:D :D :D
