Hi Sean,
The rigger I mentions who saw the triple diagonal Top Hat was David Rooke, a great bloke with heaps of experience including Top Hats. His daughter is at my school and he has done a couple of jobs for me on Storm Petrel. He is reasonably priced, works fast and does a very professional job. He is based on the central coast but does quite a bit of work in Sydney as well.

David's company details are:
RooSpar Pty Ltd
p/f: +61 2 43 244 885
m: +61 (0)415 983 776
e: roospar@bigpond.com
w: www.roospar.com.au

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Bear,

Another item of interest on the boat show Top Hat - the owner mentioned that it had been checked out by a guy named Lloyd who lives at the Lake and worked with Baker. I happen to know Lloyd Northam who was Baker's apprentice builder and although a little eccentric, he is fastidious about build quality. If Lloyd thinks the boat measures up,that is a good sign, but I don't know when he looked it over. I am still waiting for some detailed information.

Hi , I also saw the Top Hat for sale at the Toronto boat festival .A vety good example ,in excellant condition and well worth the asking price of $22.000. I own AZZURA..Mk1 ,moored at Carey Bay. Dark blue hull, very good condition, very original and has been a well loved boat. I have owned her for a little over 12 months & have fitted a new roller reefing &new HOOD drifter. I would sell the boat as my job has reached new heights ofludicrous that gives me little time to enjoy her. there are 10 sails,2 outboards..8hp Merc, 4hp tohatsu, good f/g dinghy.Very nice cabin etc..all in really good nick ..... i think one of the best Mk1s around. If interested give me a call on 49592213 ..... im looking for $16,000,Cheers Garry Brett.

Hi Garry,

Just confirming for the record on this site that I noted your message and called you about your Mark I.

And a note for Bear too - Life is full of coincidences because Garry's boat Azzura was my previous Mark 1Top Hat and I did a lot of work on her before medical problems forced me to sell. I am looking forward to viewing her again. I only returned from Q'land on Sunday and still have to see BB, the boat show vessel, but I have some exterior photos and it is just as you described. I am waiting for the owner to reconnect with me.

Intersting times ahead!!
