G'Day all,
My son uses a Figure 8 knot, similar to the one shown in the wayfarer notes, on a Flying 11 dinghy. The stbd sheet is put through the clew from the port side to the stbd side where it is finished with the figure 8 knot. Whilst it doesn't jam on the shroud it tends to twist the eye in the clew and could weaken the sail material in that area. By all means try it. I use a bowline on Felicite and lead it outside the shrouds. When it jams on the shrouds I just slacken it off and go again, it usually releases first go.
