Where abouts do you usually find the HIN? Where on the boat I mean, not where on the registration papers.

Many financial institutions, such as banks and finance companies, require a vessel to be registered before they will lend money using the vessel as security.

Mike , I couldn't imagine banks doing this these days

True Bear, but I'd say they're talking more about large expensive boats that might still be worth something. Not so much a 40 year old 25 footer.

It says boatcode, or HIN has been in use since 1972.

This yacht has an HIN number but sounds like (as always) need to talk to the owner for past info.

More like 40 years - my 1976 Compass 28 has a HIN.

Cheers, Graeme

HIN numbers came in around 2000 + or -- and all Top Hats were registered as they came up for sale, so the number has no reference to the build date.

The same applies to the boat registration number which came in first, I'm not sure of the date.

All boats, that have to be registered, must have a registration number and a HIN.

I have been through all this with RMS trying to find out how many Top Hats there are and the two systems are so corrupt in the early stages that even RMS has trouble finding the correct records on any one boat let alone a couple of hundred at once.

I'm still looking for the HIN on Windchaser. Should it be on a small plate or something? Painted on? Written in invisible ink and I need a UV light?

I can't recall seeing it hidden inside anywhere. Over the years with repairs I have seen inside every nook and cranny and not seen it.

Troppo,

Its the same size as the one fixed to the stern [usually].

The other could be in a locker just not visible when you look in, but can be seen up in a concealed area.

But not in a difficult place to fix :D

Still can't find the HIN on Windchaser. The ones on the stern, are they a plate fixed on the stern or engraved or what? Any particular place? Anyone got a photo of their HIN?

Here's the stern of Windchaser, where should the HIN be?

Hi Troppo

On Azzura it's located on the starboard transom. About where the blue rope ends in your pic.

Cheers again for your help. Kitting it out similar to Windchaser.
