Good evening everyone,

I am contemplating a complete anti foul and new standing and running rigging. Summer is coming around and we need to shake off a few cob webs.

I have it booked in at a Marina in Lake Macquarie, but would appreciate advice on;

(1) What is the usual price for a complete anti- foul. i had a complete anti-foul last year is it necessary to have a complete sandback and new antifoul being put on every 12 months. I read in a sailing magazine, that there is an antifoul on the market that lasts five years.

(2) I need the name of a rigger who works in the Lake Maquarie area, and is reliable. There is nothing worse than not knowing how much is a reasonable price and what is a good job.

As an aside, has anyone read Cruising Helmsman - October 2006. Helen Hopcroft who sails a Top Hat on Port Maquarie has an article about a Sharpie.

I lookk forward to hearing.

Hi Tom T,
I've had quite a bit of work done in the last 12 months - you might be interested:
I have the antifoul done each year and cost is $370 (excludes slipping and I have a guy do it) - antifoul is about $270.
Can't help with a rigger up there but I recently had all standing replaced, new chain plates, etc - cost around $1,540 (inc GST)
Mast stripped bare to alloy and rebuilt, painted, etc $3,200 (inc GST)
New mainsail $2,250 (inc GST)

and that's not all -
Spinnaker pole & fittings $1000, etc etc

I am very happy with the end result but a little surprised with costs (also had electricals done, vhf, deck lights, etc) - all I wanted was a spinnaker pole!
Regards
Col

Hi,

Could you keep us informed on how you went with the work and how much you ended up paying for your rigging job, as I am contemplating having the same work down on mine in a few weeks time.

I have read about the 5 yr antifoul, but (i could be wrong) I understand it is more for faster moving boats that have more of a tendancy to wash the growth off before it has time to take hold, so that would rule out our "relativly" slow moving Top Hats.

I read the article you mentioned in the latest cruising helmsman from Helen Hopcroft, it would be good to get her onto this Top Hat list, she writes a good article !!.
