I have an 8 HP Tohatsu. It doesn't fit in the well, hence the stern bracket.

Standard prop, but I understand the high thrust 4 blade works well.

Burns about a liter and a bit an hour under 3/4 throttle.

Hope that helps.

Oberon, I doubt very much if the 10hp will fit in the well, I re-powered to a new 8hp Mercury (from an old 6hp evinrude) in my last TH & had to adjust the timber mount the outboard sits in the well (move it forward about 30mm.

I had a new 4 stroke many years ago on a TS, I found it vibrated quite alot at low revs & constantly worried about laying it on it side (oil running out of sump back into engine), they may be engineered & improved since then, but something to investigate....

cheers

Shaun, the 8 hp Mercury 2-stroke is good in the well. but the motor still touches at the back. I leans against the inside of the Transom and has worn a ridge in the fibreglass. The 8 HP Mercury and Tohatsu are apparently the same motor. I like the fact that it is light @27 kg and has 2 cylinders (less vibration than a single cylinder motor). It has not missed a beat.

"Sombrero" Mk. 2 (see previous post of guilotine raising and lowering system for outboard) has an 8 hp long shaft Tohatsu outboard. the previous motor was an Evinrude 6 hp. I find that the Tohatsu will not fit without hitting the rear of the well when being lowered, but if it is turned to port it will go down and come up fine without striking the well. My smart friend who always has an answer suggested reshaping the cavitation plate. It would do the trick, but I am loath to attack my shiny new Tohatsu. I know his suggestion is a good one because he has done just that to my old Evinrude which is now powering his 42 ft classic metre yacht.
