Boom tent/awnings

Boom tent/awnings

Postby Bruce » Wed Sep 21, 2011 7:11 pm

Hi everyone.

With summer approaching, I'm thinking about getting a new boom tent/awning for my boat.Whitworths have some, but the smallest is 2.4m x 2.5m. It seems a little big, but I'm not sure. The one I currently have is smaller. Has anyone bought one of these or if not, what size do you have, or do you know what size suits best?

Cheers,

Bruce

Bruce, I think mine is the 2.5 x 2.5 from Whitworths, it's grey. I have a couple of aluminum poles at either end that straddle the boom. Works well, easy to rig and can be left up if you're motoring.

MAKE ONE!!!!!!!

I made mine.

Ripstop fabric purchased from Spotlight and some dowel.

Mine is Red, Yellow, Green and Blue. So almost a rainbow.
Very light weight.

Make to whatever size you want.

That's what I was going to do Diana and brought the old one home as a template. However, the cost of the materials and the wine to bribe a friend to sow for me (I assume some sowing was needed?), or to lend me a sowing machine (which I have no idea how to operate), makes the Whitworth's one very appealing! :-)

Yes Bruce, some sewing is required.
But very easy.
The measuring is the hardest part.
Especially if when you measure twice you get 2 different answers.
