Inner forestay

OK Bear, as from Qld I will do the 'please explain' request. I have a furling headsail. As I am in Qld waters I don't have to worry about storm sails as that is something that only happens south of 'er. So, why would you contemplate it. Maybe If going off shore with a furling headsail, then that is the easiest option to be able to rig a storm sail if you need it. Nothing more, nothing less. If sailing in the trades,it also facilitates wing on wing with 2 head sails. It is easy to do without any drama. If you don't have a furling headsail, then no need to bother. So , unruffle those feathers and enjoy sailing. Cheers Pete

You have missed the point ! Do you want ? or have you for some strange reason fitted an inner forestay to a Top Hat .And if so why ? why!.I don't have one on my Top Hat why see previous post.

Hi Phil,
Ive been busy lately...next time your down at the boats can you check if my "bit of junk" is still floating

This is the procedure for reefing a junk rig(down to storm sail size, if you like)....
Make a cup of tea,
stand in the cockpit holding cup of tea in one hand,
with the other hand...uncleat halyard...
allow halyard to ease through your fingers, until the desired sail area remains...
re-cleat halyard...
resume drinking cup of tea...without having spilt a drop.

ahh Humphrey, I might not be the smartest bear in the room but I though the point was obvious. That is to be able to rig a storm jib if one needed to, when one has a furling headsail. Now whether you will be caught out in that weather, or not is another question! Just how much can a koala bear? Hey Shaun I like that reefing procedure. Except here it would be a Bundy Rum! Cheers
