Rain water coming in the forward V berth

Rain water coming in the forward V berth

Postby SeaLady » Mon Mar 08, 2010 10:14 am

Over the last few weeks with the rain. I have noticed that there is sometimes a bit of dampness on the V berth.
There is also some water under the V berth where I have the porta pottie.
Staying on board this weekend with the rain on Friday night I realised that it is rain coming in. Not through the front hatch but near the 'bulkhead" wall somewhere. There is no obvious place that is leaking. And the amount of water is very little considering the amount of rain we have had.
Anyone have any ideas of how to solve the problem? I am thinking of having someone throw buckets of water on the deck to try and see where it is coming through.

Hi Diana

I too had a damp vberth when i looked on the weekend. It could be the bolts/screws holding the "harbour bridge" in place or any other fixture on the cabin top. Try dousing the area with water and tracking its entry

The amount of rain we've had lately itd be the exception not to have at least a little water work its way in id suggest!

Hi Diana

For years I've had water coming down the starboard "bulkhead" post and have been unable to stop it. Now I've had the mast and the mast step off for re-painting, the bolt holes through the cabin roof have been temporarily plugged - and the moisture has dried up - even with the rain. It's probable that water seeps in through the bolt holes under the mast step to get in between the cabin lining and from there seeps down the bulkhead. Short of removing the mast and step to get to these holes, it's almost impossible to stop as water trickles down inside the mast itself. I'll let you know how things are once the mast is back up.

Hi Diana,
I seem to get a few drips through the wiring that passes through the foredeck coming down from the mast.
It then drips through one of the v-berth lights.
Not that much but enough to be annoying.
cheers,
Allen

This is the first water I have had come in over the 3 years I have had Sea Lady.
So hopefully it is a once off.
