Hi all, Jan 4, '09 11:59 PM
by Brian for everyone

Happy new year to everyone! Thought I'd better get myself on this new site you have organised for us 'Tophatters'. Always a challenge to navigate around a new site. I'm here now. My old MSN name was 'venno0'. Am just using my full name on the Multiply site. Jean and I are 'Papillon' Mk3 owners moored at Bowen in Nth Qld. I have posted an album of pictures on my member site showing the refurbishments we have been undertaking on Papillon over the past 12 months. May be of interest to some of you. Have completed other projects on Papillon but don't have good pics at this time to put up. Other projects planned for 09. Really enjoy this refurb activity. Bye for now. Cheers. Brian

G'day Brian & Jean,
Papillon looks great!, ive admired your kitchen bench/fridge project since you posted photos of it some time back on the MSN site.
Is Bowen harbour a viable option to leave a boat for 18 months or so, as ive thought about sailing up to the whitsundays then leaving the boat there for a while & flying up & back on the cheap aifares every now & then to sail her, before sailing her home again 18 months later? (just thinking ahead, couldn't do it for a year or two yet anyway)

cheers
Shaun

Hi Shaun,
Thanks for the comments.
Yes Bowen is a great place to moor a yacht. Everyone who passes through the harbour loves their stay. It is a quiet lazy place and probably the lst of the coastal towns that is untouched by the commercial push. There is talk of a new marina which will change things dramatically, but at the moment it is the cheapest place to moor a yacht between Mackay and Townsville. Same rates for casual as permanent. Rates go up marginally each year and this financial year it costs $200 per month for a pole mooring. There seems to be plenty of moorings at the moment but a call to the harbour master (department of transport) would confirm availability. Bowen is at the Northern end of the Whitsunday Islands group and four hours sail puts you at Gloucester passage and entry into the island group it self. At the moment, Jean and I just sail around the Bowen area on day sails which for us is best for us at this time. A full weekend is a bit hard for us to orchestrate with our work and living location at the moment. We look forward to the day when we can spend a few more leisure hours on Papillon. We are setting Papillon up with all the mod cons we think is appropriate for this location and our lifestyle. I dont like roughing it and am a bit of a gadgets man so you can imagine what my preferences might be like. Electric toilet with holding tank, pressure water, good refridgeration, TV. Still more to do but plenty of time. Sailing and maintenance has to be an enjoyable pass time in our view. Hope the above helps
