Bill, did you miss some of this link? I couldn't connect. I have had good solid waves here over the last few days so although I have been on holidays since Friday I have yet to bend a sail onto Storm Petrel. But I am hoping to sail to Sydney and back next week if we get a couple of nice days.

Yep, worked on my iPad. Those guys are just a little bit nuts. One of the local boys is flown around the world to surf crazy waves like that. It would take a lot of guts for the surfer and for the jet ski driver!
In the 'old days' I used to love big waves, but the biggest waves I surfed were probably triple overhead (15-18ft), nothing like the crazy stuff they tow into today. Given that the intensity of a wave is proportional to the square of its amplitude, a 40ft wave carries 16 times the energy of a 10ft wave! A ten foot wave can throw you around like a rag doll so I can only imagine what it would be like being slammed by a 40ft wave.
Hope you can bend a sail on your Metzcraft soon.
