REMEMBERING GREAT BOATS , AND THEIR PILOTS

Postby DESIREMK1 » Mon Nov 12, 2012 9:29 am

Hi Guys ,

As i know you guys enjoy great marine design , i thought my other love of Radio Controlled Boats would be of interest for those that know of the history of F1 Racing in Europe , And in particular the racing that took place off Bristol Docks ( see YouTube ) . This handbuilt model was centred on Bob Spalding's 1980 World Championship Winning Raceboat .

This all wooden model is powered by a 22.2V ( 6S ) high discharge battery and 1340KV rated brushless motor , producing an unloaded max rpm of around 30k , and 4hp - weighing 3.5kg ....

Capable of over 110kmh in a little under four seconds , it is not for the inexperienced , or faint hearted . Which shall be raced next year with Model Boat Club of NSW (mbcofnsw.com ) , in Penrith Sydney , as it was shipped to England soon after being built for a range of exhibitions . Including the Mshed.org Summer " Urban Sport " exhibition running over their Summer , which looked at how the natural environment allows for sport in all facets to be enjoyed in their local surround.

My model raceboat while in the UK , is being cared for Roy Cooper who runs an Organisation called " fastonwater.co.uk " , Roy is a passionate guy about boat racing and has been a joy to co respond with . He has built an indepth knowledge on Powerboat racing including F1 Racing at Bristol Docks which is contained on his website , his website is a delight to reminisce on past times , as it contains a lot of old photos and historical information of the times when such pilots as Bob Spalding , Cess Van Der Velden , Bill Seebold piloted these awesome craft around the Bristol Docks circuit in excess of speeds of 100mph , close to dock walls ...

Once the range of events have been completed in 2013 , including a memorial night at Oulton Broads Powerboat Raceboat Club headquarters for the JPS team members Bob Spalding / Tom Percivel . It will also be personally signed by Jane Spinks , who is the daughter of the late and Great Bob Spalding who left us in 1997 , due to a brain anurism . As a result of an accident he sustained while practiscing for a race ten years prior ...

In recognition of the greats in the aquatic world , including our very own Top Hat , derived from the U.K ...
