An Invitation is being extended to any Top Hat’s……

Hawkesbury River Yacht Club
NOTICE OF EVENT – RHUMB LINE
November 5, 2011 1330 HRS

The ‘Rhumb Line’ is one of HRYC’s more unusual events. It is a trophy race for HRYC members, but is also especially organized for the enjoyment of any Top Hat’s that wish to participate.

Prior to Start:
• All participating boats to anchor off Gunyah Beach in approximately a north-south line, and in a position that does not inhibit the progress of other boats as they leave the area.
Start:
• Any nominated crew member is to row a dinghy to the beach and await instructions for the 1330 start – this includes a swig of rum to help clear the mind.
• The nominated crew then rows the dinghy back to their boat, board and only then can any crew member raise the anchor.
Course:
• Set sail - towing the dinghy for Dangar Island passing outside the channel markers leaving the Island to starboard.
• Head for Green Point and round the buoy leaving to starboard.
• Pass between the HRYC Club House and the buoy to the east.
IMPORTANT: If the first boat has not passed this point by 1530 hrs, this will be the finishing point for the race.
• Again head for Dangar Island so as to leave the island to port – again sailing outside the channel markers. Sail to the finish line between the Club House and the buoy to the east, ensuring that you sail outside the boats moored in Parsley Bay. Sailing through the boats will result in disqualification.
NOTE: All boats should record their elapsed times on each leg passing the Club House.
The post race gathering will be at the club barge for the results and includes finishing of the bottle of the rum—why take it home? A BBQ will follow.

Top Hat info:
All Top Hat’s that sail the course are to use only Main & Head Sail (NO Extras) and tow a dingy.
A cost of $30/head (covers the cost of the BBQ & Trophies), collected at the BBQ.

Please advise me if you intend to come along, and number of crew.

Note: If you cannot sail on the day….why not come along for the BBQ…spend the afternoon on the Club House…talk with other Top Hat owners...

For more information, please contact me…

The Course Map can be supplied on request.

Thanks for organising this event Denis. Count Storm Petrel in with her motley crew - probably three in total on board.

Do you have to sail off the anchorage or can you motor up to the anchor to retrieve it? (My main anchor and chain is bloody heavy)

Cheers,
Mark

Sail Off.....water depth under the keel is usually about 1.5mtr....depending on the weather...don't put out too much chain....better still....you should put out all your 50mts of chain....gives the rest of us a chance

I think I have been type cast as the fool!!!!!

Unfortuneatly I wont be able to get Blue Moon down to the Hawkesbury for this event, shame because the last two events I have attended at the HRYC have been very good fun, held at a unique yacht club with friendly members.
This particular event sounds great!, it'll keep the single-handers busy!, good stuff.
Haveanexcellentweekend.
cheers
Shaun

Woulda loved to take part, but won't have mast work complete by then (more like a month later, I hope)
Might get to look at it this Sunday.

G'Day sorry to say that I wont be able to make it due to my sons and my racing commitments. I'd really like to catch up sometime.

Just a heads up too, last Friday night at the local twilights on the lake Maritime were breath testing EVERY boat after they passed over the finishing line. The legal limit is 0.05. Be careful, but I know all the Top Hatters are responsible.

Have a great time, I will make it one day.

Greg.

I DONT SEE ANY DISCLAIMER HERE

Good that will give us someone to follow so we don't get lost! Are you going to join us with your Northerner for the race Bornfree? It would be interesting to see how it went against the Top Hats.

Cheers,
Mark
