Great idea (as I cannot do the one in November!)

Could I suggest that either 29/30 December or 2/3 January (wife's b'day on 1 January so unhelpful!) would be great for Sydney Harbour - and gives people a great excuse to be there for the fireworks ~ Also - in spite of what you've heard, so long as you anchor well and early, its a relaxing day/night on the Harbour. Off Taronga Zoo is a great spot!

Also in for Port Hacking - however I am in China from 7/1 - 23/1 - so maybe Australia day long weekend if it works for others?

I vote for New Years. Off the Zoo is lovely. And as long as you get there early it is great. My fav spot if just off Bradleys Head, a nice sandy beach to swim to, people selling cuppachinos and ice cream on the land. And a faboulous view of the city, sunset and of course the fireworks and the rest of the on water entertainment.

Also if early and anyone else anchors too close you can tell them to 'bugger off'. Rather than you having to leave. Yes there are some idiots.

Can pick up other people from the Zoo ferry wharf as well. It is a long row from Bradleys but easy if you have an egg beater outboard on your dinghy.
Or if they feel like a walk there is a path to Bradleys and you can pick them up from the little beach.
Usually well sheltered from winds.

Anyone who would want to come by car is limited as they close the roads about 10am. And parking is usually full early.
So after 10am you need to use the zoo ferry wharf or have someone catch a water taxi or walk to the Beach at Bradleys. The walk is not onerous, but may be difficult if carrying eskys.
Water taxis are expensive but plentiful except for immediately before and after the fireworks.

Do need to be careful if anchoring late on NYE as generally only the lousy anchoring spots are left and there is an anchor graveyard hole in the middle of Athol Bay. I have seen so many boats have to cut their anchor line. I think becasue the bottom there is the old NAVY graveyard. So lots of rubbish on the bottom which can catch anchors.

I will be there anyway, probably the day before, and would love to see a few Top Hats, all wearing tuxedos or Tuxedo t shirts and Top Hats. Would make for a great party.

At this moment I'm in for the Sydney sailaway, New Years Eve at Bradleys head sounds great, lets hope I get that epirb for xmas.

I just rang Sydney Water Police to ask about rafting up on NYE.
They said the rules keep changing and to ring Waterways.

They say yes can raft up, but not on a mooring. Must be at anchor.
Cannot block a channel. If 3-4 boats together should be ok. However if they feel it is unsafe or something then they will ask us to split up.

Good Morning All,

Well it would have been if the weather this week had been better!

Yes, I have pulled the pin on sailing to a date hence I will not be in Sydney over the Xmas period.

Sorry to those who thought I would be there but it just got too hard.

So I will travel to Sydney on 4 wheels for the Xmas weekend and make Sydney in SEAKA at my leisure next year.
