2013 sail away

Postby Miker » Fri Sep 20, 2013 8:22 am

Wow, time flies...

Looking back it's been some time since we had a NSW gathering.

Impromptu in Lake Macquarie in what, Feb 2013?

Late November, Sydney Harbour, Pittwater, or ?

Any takers?

BTW.... I can't organise anything ;)

OK Mike, how about you don't organise a get together in The Hawkesbury.

Can I also suggest that it be accessible by road in the usual event that the weather prevents the numbers getting up.

Welcome home Michael.

I would be happy to participate in a February Top Hat get together. I did not think too much of Wangi Wangi. Good company but poor facilities. I think Pitwater is best as it is mid way for the Sydney and Lake M hatters, has no bar and is cheaper and less crowded than Sydney. The Basin or perhaps the Royal Motor Yacht Club might be worth enquiring about if we want a little more comfort ( it is quite cheap).

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Guys ,

If the 2013 Sailaway is held in the Hawkesbury / Pittwater Basin , I shall be there with my young family in toe . Since moving back to Sydney , I have been flat out with work / family commitments , so my Sailing ability has taken a slow learning path , though my love for my Mk1 Toppy will always be at the fore , with her beautiful lines , and interesting heritage , im proud to be an owner .

P.S - The Basin is a great spot to hold such an event , as its managed by NSW National Parks , and caters well to families . My children know it well , as they use the amenities there .

Nice Pic Brad.

Lets cast out a date, say Mid November. Instead of the Basin, a road accessible spot like Church Point, Clareville or even Careel Bay is OK in Pittwater. Patonga or Brooklyn/Dangar for Broken Bay and in Brisbane Water, Pretty Beach is nice.... or even Gosford, although Mark won't have to travel far!

I'll re post this in the general section to see who's up.

Haven't seen Diana or Curly or Bear about here much.....

Don't worry about me but we're going to Tassie by sea on the 8th to the 18th Nov, on the Ferry.
I would recommend meeting somewhere like the RMYC or Brooklyn where we can drive to. Remember the time I was shipwrecked on Coasters Retreat !
This gets around the weather problems which can't be planned for at the last minute.
Bear in on holidays but he may be coaxed out with a barrel of Honey . Do you really want to rattle his cage, you know how he gets Mike.

I first inspected my Mk1 at Bayview ( possible location ) , Where there is a decent size pontoon , Jetty , Picnic Facilities , Public Toilet , and Ample Parking . It would also make a great spectacle , having so many Top Hats 1-3 , within such a small confine .

It would be great if a Sydney Sub Branch is formed on the day , I would be willing to take on a role . Though I still require tuition in the finer art of handling my Mk1 under sail .

How about late November? Should I try to organize another Top Hat race with the Hawkesbury Yacht Club or will we just plan a weekend get together?? Bay view is OK, but we might be able to talk the RMYC into having us which would give us showers, food, etc. and pens for those who wanted to stay over.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Storm Petrel ,

RMYC sounds more appealing .
