“Order of the Tipping Dinghy”

I got rather sun burnt today!

You see, John of Airoloen had his new dinghy out for his first try in it.
Things had gone well, but after visiting me on Seaka, John returned to Airoloen.

The next thing I hear is this rather sharp loud call of “PHIL! PHIL!

Popping up on deck I see that John is hanging onto the NEW dinghy.

But he’s in the water!! :o

Quickly jumping into my old workhorse of a dinghy, [without a shirt!] I took out after John chasing him on the fast flowing incoming [luckily] tide. After gathering up gear such as his hat and oars we drifted onto the sand bank in the middle of the Camden Haven River where John reboarded his dinghy. So while John baled out his dinghy I slowly towed him towards the shore where the
current is less and we would have an easier return to our Top Hats.

So that’s how I got sun burnt today, but that’s also how John of Airoloen joined the

“Order of the Tipping Dinghy”

Now I do believe that we have several other members who belong to this order,
so please welcome your newest member!

PS. I promised John that I would only tease him today!

Great story Phillip! I'd like to say, "Welcome to the order of the Tipping Dinghy", but you see I'm not a member.......... Yet :D

Michael will recall that I am one of the early members of the Order of the Tipping Dingy, but to be fair I was accompanied by two largish Hatters in a 2 man dinghy with a slab of beer for ballast. I am still amazed that my dexterous crew managed to save the beer when the call of, 'abandon ship' was made! Welcome to the Order John.

Cheers,
Mark

Mark,

Any excuse is not enough to get out of this order,
especially when "claiming” the cause was a slab of beer!!!

Michael, Like you I also haven't [touch wood] joined the order.

Phillip,

You are right, once a memeber always a member! Perhaps I should invent a canting slab keel to prevent others joining the order?

cheers,
Mark

I just found this section.

I must confess that I too have Tipped a Dinghy or a lot.

Many years ago, when I was young and married.
My then husband became frustrated with my 'unco' when getting in and/or out of the dinghy.

So much so that he put said dinghy in the swimming pool and insisted that I climb in and out of it 100 times.

This I did, with a few swims early on. None later.

Does this mean I have graduated??????

I'm not sure if this qualifies for the "Order".

You see, I was trying this method of entering the dinghy from the water.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7FZL3Conqg

But, my new Aquila dinghy is very light and even though the Johnson 3.5 was on the back it still wasn't heavy enough.

After checking I had the process straight in my head, I tried exactly what she does in the video. The whole thing worked perfectly, in a sense, except that instead of me being in a floating dinghy, the dinghy was now inverted over my head. This was all performed to a rather large crowd of onlookers in Refuge Bay, who didn't really say much out loud, but were more than likely muttering chuckles to themselves. I ended up having to climb aboard the Top Hat to right the dinghy, then flush the fuel and carbie of the outboard.

I guess the process would work, but only if your dinghy is heavier than 22kgs or you have a person counterweighing the other side....

So what do you think? Does being already in the water and tipping the dinghy onto yourself qualify?
