Getting temporary numbers sounds like the way 2 go. ..... But another option would be 2 embellish each pulpit with a different colour feather boa!

FYI for those interested in acquiring a sail number, this is issued by YNSW on 02 8116 9800. Yachting Australia does not do this.

I still like the idea of self timing and tallying of results over a beer after. I am not sure they make feather boas in enough different colours.

Hi All (sorry about the delay in updating you all)

THE EVENT IS A GOER....

I have sent off a email to 'AFLOAT' advertising the Event in their 'Letters to the Editor' to see if more Top Hats can come along. Just have to see what happens.

Below is some info on what is organised:

The weekend will be made up of the following:

Saturday Event – Round the Buoys Match Race
This event will be conducted on the Saturday, starting a 1330hrs, and coincide with the normal HRYC Point Score race.
ALL Top Hat yachts competing will have the same handicap and carry NO Extras.
CourseThe couse to be sailed will be displayed on the day from the HRYC Barge (details available from the HRYC WEB site) http://www.hryc.asn.au
Timing - Each yacht will record their own finishing time and pass on to me at the BBQ.

At the completion of this event a BBQ, Social gathering & Presentation of prizes etc will be held at the HRYC Club House. Visiting yachts can tie up alongside the HRYC Club house, drop anchor or pickup a visitors mooring for overnight stay. The HRYC tender will be available to ferry sailors from yachts to the Club House etc. Please note that visiting yachts should make themselves aware of tide heights in the river as the area to the West of the Club House can be very shallow at low tide.

Accomodation on the HRYC Barge is again available for those wishing to stay on overnight.

Sunday
Breakfast - HRYC
Sail in Company to Refuge Bay (Raft Up)

Information for those Top Hats participating:
1. HRYC does NOT require any participating yacht to submit an entry fee.
2. HRYC will cater for the BBQ on Saturday evening. There will be a nominal cost of $25/head (collected at the BBQ) which will cover HRYC costs for BBQ & Breakfast Those attending should bring their own drinks. Participation in ALL events is FREE.
3. Insurance – The owners of ALL participating yachts are to ensure that their insurance coverage complies with the HRYC Club Rules (available from the HRYC WEB site) http://www.hryc.asn.au
4. ALL participants are to read the ‘Risk Warning’ available on the HRYC WEB site
5. Any yacht anticipating that they will attend the event is requested to email: denissmith1@bigpond.com and advise numbers for catering. Please cc the tophatyachts.org administrator info@tophatyachts.org

Thanks Denis, good stuff!

Only four weeks away now...., who's still going?

I'll be there most likely with NightCap, & if's the moons align correctly i may be able to hitch a lift down with Phil on Seaka.

Looking forward to defending our Silver medal from the 2009 Regatta! 8-)

cheers

Looking forward to it!

Hi All,

Storm Petrel will be there with her motley crew of Tophatters.

We had a bit of excitement on Saturday. When we were North East of Barrenjoey Headland a surprise Southerly arrived and the wind went from a 10 kt NW to a 30kt S before you could say 'Top hat'. We were way over canvased with the no.2 and full main up, when the southerly hit with a bang. About 30 seconds after the first gust laid us flat, the shackle holding the mainsheet block to the traveler gave way, it started pouring with rain and a big bonito hit the line we were trowling (yes, all at the same time). Ten minutes of frantic, wet action followed during which; the shackle was replaced with a new one and the main was brought under control, we reduced the sail area and the bonito shook itself loose when we were bringing it over the transom (it probably saw the chaos in the cockpit and wanted no part of it). The language was a little colourful but the crew handled the situation with the resigned cheerfulness that I have come to expect from them. After having a good laugh about it all, they battened down the hatches and we all enjoyed the fast broad reach back to Pretty Beach. You just wouldn't have as much fun in a Beneteau.

Look forward to catching up at the HRYC.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi all,

Is anyone willing to take on an extra crew person? I just joined the site hoping to find out more about this robust little yacht and can think of no better learning opportunity than this Regatta.

Cheers
