Two meetings, excellent idea Greg!,

As it happens 31st Oct / 1st Nov 2009 is perfect for me. :D

So how about we get together for a saturday arvo/evening BBQ on the 31st Oct?

If that date is ok with others, my plan would be to leave Laurieton around 23rd Oct & return 7th Nov, weather permitting.

Any locals know any good anchorages or have a secret spot up the hawkesbury area that would suit?

cheers

Hi guys; checked with the wife and other couple and they're not so keen on going all the way to broken bay on first weekend either - so I am out!

Is anyone else planning to be on Sydney Harbour in the lead up to New Years? If so, we could have a (third) sailaway meeting on the harbour on say 29th/30th December?

G'Day Brendan,
There is no need to miss out on the BBQ. If we have the sailaway at the Basin you can get there by Fantasea Ferry from Palm beach. See;
http://www.palmbeachferry.com.au/Timeta ... fault.aspx
There is also a fee for using the park. $4 or $7.
Just tell your wife you are taking her on a secret romantic picnic. She'll love you for it. Its only an hours drive from southern Sydney.

30th of October looks good to me, we're in Careel Bay now, so not very far to go at all.

Hi All,

Registering my interest in the sailaway but would like some details of trip before I can commit,in particular, dates, venue.

My preference is for Pittwater,Broken Bay/Gosford area or perhaps Port Stephens.

Hi All,
I think we should pin a venue down also. How about we meet at the Basin in Pittwater? It is only a short sail from the mouth of Broken Bay, it is sheltered, it has a camp ground (toilets, beach, safe swimming) and there is a Ferry from Palm Beach for those who just want to come for the BBQ and/or talk Top Hats. There are quite a few spare moorings in the Bay and visiting yachts can also anchor round the corner in America Bay or Refuge Bay (if they want a more secluded place to overnight). There is no club/pub however and we would have to bring our own provisions. (This is not a probelm for me as I am moored at Pretty Beach in Brisbane Waters so it would only take me a couple of hours to sail over, but I cannot speak for others).

Will we make this the venue?

Cheers,
Mark

Good Idea Mark.
I'l be at The Basin on Saturday Afternoon barring fire floods and famine from 1200.
I'll pick a day or two before to sail down from Lake Macquarie dependant on weather. The high tide is about 6am around that date and I will probably stay a day or two in Broken Bay.

How will we know who the Top Hatters are? Perhaps a carnation in the lapel of your tuxedo.?

Be careful because there is a charge for organised groups over 20 and it requires booking if I read the NPWS website right. We're just having a picnic.
There is a charge to use the facilities too. Its about $4 or $7.

See you all there.

I have a friend with a holiday house at Coasters Retreat opposite the Basin and I will give him a ring and check to see what we get away with in the bay. I know there are spare moorings and no one minds if you overnight in the bay. I will also be there on the Saturday afternoon (provided the seas are not so big that I can't get out of Brisbane Waters) with my 'picnic basket '. As to recognising other Tophatters on land, perhaps the first one there should spread a Vsheet out on the grass near the beach so we know where to meet? Or would this bring a copter down?

Cheers,
Mark
