Sorry guys, this event has been postponed until the 9th and 10th of February next year. Plenty of time to get it on the calendars. See General discussion section for details.

Cheers,
Mark

Thanks for the organising effort Mark. Unfortunately the Feb date is back in the racing season. I will be in for the Cruise on the 24th Nov. though.
Just try and stop me! Well, if they don't open the bridge that might slow me down.

Hi All,

Cliff from the HRYC has got back to and suggested they could organise a Top Hat event for the 9/10 February at Parsley Bay. He wanted to know if a Race and BBQ or two days of races would be preferred. Can I get an indication of who might wish to take part?

Cheers,
Mark

Hi All,

Seems a 1 day event on the 9th of February is the go! Do we want a BBQ OR a raft up after????? I would prefer a raft up in Refuge Bay after the race, but will have the HRYC organise a BBQ at Parsley if that is the preference.

I suggest no extras (ie no spinnakers) this will enable standard insurance cover to apply.

Cheers,
Mark

Here is a copy of the latest email from Cliff at HRYC. Note that participants will need the standard maritime safety gear on board and standard insurance to take part in a 'no-extras' race.

Hi Mark

Our club now has 6 Top Hats. All are sort of looking forward to a Top Hat only event so we chose the 9th Feb so as not to clash with our other events.
Since you suggest a one race only on the Saturday then would you still like a BBQ in the park? (Very basic sausage sizzle $5 per person all u can eat, BYO drinks). Prizes for 1st 2nd 3rd would be presented then also.
-OR-Would you all want to raft up somewhere afterwards? Maybe Refuge bay.

When you notify your members would you also direct them to our club rules. http://users.tpg.com.au/hrycnsw/ Particularly racing rules and the requirement for all boats to be insured with “Full Racing Cover” if you intend to allow for the use of extras.
If they only have cruising or “normal cover” they may extend this cover to “Twilight cover”, which is usually a free upgrade by notifying their insurer, which then allows them to participate in races where extras such as spinnakers are not used by any boat sailing in the race. We also are revising our rules at the moment and will be introducing Self Audits for Cat 7 safety for all our club boats. A minimum of NSW Maritime required safety equipment will be satisfactory for this occasion though.
We have been changing our race management procedure to that of issuing race notices prior to our events this way everyone knows what is going on and what is expected of them. So we would issue a “Race Notice” for this event too. Which you could circulate and they would need to sign and present prior to the start by email or on the day.

Regards Cliff

A get together and sail around a course is a great idea.

I have no interest in racing at all.

But would love to come along for a sail.

So you can count me in for the BBQ, raft up or whatever.

And for a sail in company.

But I will not be an entrant in the race.
