I notice in the original article it says the men were dehydrated and exhausted. When you see the size of the esky you can understand why. The esky is huge and was full of beer so to increase the bouyancy they started drinking like mad. Going through that amount of beer was exhausting. Then, once the esky was empty and floating safe and high in the water, they had nothing more to drink so got dehydrated (all the beer they had drunk did not help either). Thus, dehydrated and exhausted.
